Not requested.

Place the phone vertically at the lower back (L5), then enable the sensor.

Rest 30–60 seconds between trials.

Phone reference & voice instructions

Secure the phone at L5 in portrait orientation, with its top toward the head. Stand comfortably upright with both feet on the floor and hands on hips. Do not touch the phone. When phone samples are arriving, click Calibrate phone on the computer and stay still for 5 seconds. Repeat after moving the phone or changing the belt.

Not calibrated. Overall acceleration is available, but neutral-relative tilt is not.

This records a quiet-standing reference, not a clinical anatomical calibration. It cannot determine which way the phone faces around the vertical axis. Raw readings remain unchanged.

Session setup

Keep the whole body and feet visible. Hands on hips; phone secured at L5. Stop if unsafe. Rest 30–60 seconds between trials.

Participant, trial settings & full instructions

Keep the camera fixed, full body and both feet visible, phone firmly vertical at L5, footwear and marked foot positions unchanged. Stand upright with hands on hips; do not touch support. Rest 30–60 seconds between runs. If a run has a step, support touch, arm movement, early stop, or eyes opening, use Redo trial.

Standard protocol: 3 runs × 30 seconds per condition.

Connect iPad side camera · scan QR

Scan this code with the iPad Camera app, then open the link in Safari. Use the iPad’s front-facing camera for the side view. The code pairs the iPad to this session automatically; no relay address needs to be entered.

Not connected. The front-only protocol still works when the iPad option is off.

Preview frame rate adapts to the camera and connection. The relay does not save video. Side-view angles are 2D estimates, not 3D motion capture.

Knee values are 2D camera projections in degrees, not clinical 3D joint angles. Front: + = knee inward (valgus-like), − = outward (varus-like). Side: 0° ≈ projected straight; positive = bend. Hyperextension cannot be determined reliably. Keep cameras fixed and knees/ankles visible.

AddBiomechanics reference-data path

This browser records a phone trial and exports a transparent CSV. AddBiomechanics reference files are .b3d / OpenSim outputs and require a server-side conversion or model-training pipeline; they cannot be read directly by a self-contained browser page.

Dataset documentation and license. Its publicly documented core set contains optical motion capture, force plates, kinematics, joint torques, and center-of-mass kinematics—useful as reference labels, not as patient norms.

Deployment checklist
  1. Serve this exact file at an HTTPS URL, as the top-level page.
  2. Do not send Permissions-Policy: camera=(). A top-level app normally needs Permissions-Policy: camera=(self), or no restrictive camera policy.
  3. If embedding is unavoidable, the host header must delegate to the embedded origin and its iframe must include allow="camera". Sandboxed frames also need allow-same-origin.
  4. Open the same URL in Safari/Chrome's normal browser, not an in-app preview. If it works there but not in the preview, the host app/webview must add native camera and motion permission handling; website settings cannot override that.
  5. On iOS, enable Camera for the browser/host app in Settings and check that site's camera setting. On Android Chrome, check the Chrome app camera permission and the site's permission.
